OpenOffice & Ximian
I have just installed OpenOffice 641c on the Suse Linux 7.3 platform running the new Ximian desktop.
The installation went very well and I am happy that I finally have a robust office suite. However, it seems that the easiest of operations is the toughest for me. After installation, the program links did not show up under my programs menu in the upper left hand corner. I had to go to the specific folder and run the shell script in order to access swriter, scalc and simpress. There are no binary application launchers that I could find! Can anyone tell me how to index the open office apps (swriter, scalc, simpress) into my programs menu or simply place an icon of each on my desktop that is not a shell script? To access the applications I am simply running it as a script to its definite location. There's got to be an easier way!!! |
I don't use OpenOffice, but StarOffice. The idea is the
same. Where did you install it? Forgot? :) Ok. run terminal locate OpenOffice or find it in file manager in X right-click on taskbar> add to panel> applications> point to your app> ok First place you should go to is Suse website. I'm sure they have doc's. 2nd place is openoffice.org documentation. Lastly, what you did is manual install and it won't show up anywhere in X. If you want, you have to have the distro CD and install from there. It'll show up. |
How Do I Access X
Do you mean SAX2 in Suse linux? If so I went there but did not see the taskbar option. Please advise on how to access X. Once I get there I am sure I can do it.
Thanks! |
