OpenOffice 3.1.0

I have openoffice 3.1.0 which came with the zenwalk package by default. For some reason i cant seem to get spell check to work. If i misspell words while typing it does not pick up the error. If i spellcheck after it still does not pick up the error. Any Ideas?
