Opening wine programs in console

I installed a few programs on wine and when I use the desktop shortcuts, they work great. The problem is, I don't use my desktop very often and frankly, prefer to keep it clear, so I started working on a very simple C++ program that would open the windows programs in wine. The problem is, I can't get the commands to open them in wine to work.

Right now, what I'm doing is taking the command they used in the shortcut, and pasting it into terminal and running it. It always manages to execute, but it always has some error that the shortcut didn't have.

How can I open a wine program with just a command?

Which programs? Which errors exactly? Are you sure that the errors just are not displayed when you launch the programs graphical?

Right now, just Age of Empires and Rise of Rome. There errors are:
Code:
Could not initalize graphics system. Make sure that you video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw
Code:
Age of Empires Expansion requires Age of Empires 1.0, 1.0A, or 1.0B to be installed
Neither of the errors existed when I did the exact same thing via shortcut.

I figured it out. In the .Desktop file there was a Path variable, which when I moved into that directory it worked.
