opening windows in maximized mode

I'm using Slackware 10.0 with KDE 3.2.3 and I don't want to maximize windows every time I open. How can I open windows in maximized mode?

Secondly, I don't want to type
$su
$password
$halt/reboot
Are there any button to halt or reboot in KDE?

Maybe you can think I'm lazy and Slackware is not for me, but it is the best that I tried.
