Opening programs after installing from source

Ok, I read some forums threads and found out how to install a program from the source. All of these explanations seem to end at make install or something like that, but how do I open the program after it installs. I think I installed octave on Fedora 5 but I can't find where it is. Thanks.

KDE comes with a program to find installed programs and add them your menu. Try typing octave& in the konsole, that should start the program till you get it put in your menu.
