opengl-viewer kipi plugin in kde4

Those of you using kde4 with the new kipi-plugins may have noticed, that they contain an opengl picture viewer plugin. The cool thing about it is, that even small photos can be zoomed to fullscreen with outstanding quality.
That's why I'd like to make this plugin my standard viewer, but it's only usable through digikam or gwenview. If this doesn't work, I'm even considering to write a separate application like this plugin (If it's not too much work). Question for kipi- or opengl experts:

- Is it possible to use this plugin in my own application (like kparts maybe ??). Is there documentation about this ? All Links I found on developer.kde.org are dead ...

- Anyone maybe know how this quality is achieved ? Anti-Aliasing ? I've never done any opengl stuff ...
