open with programs running under wine?

Hey everyone,

I have a few programs (like photoshop) running under wine and added to the kmenu. However, whenever i try to open a file in, say, /home/fibbi/documents by right click>open with>windows apps>photoshop, i get an error saying photoshop couldn't read /home/fibbi/documents/xxx.psd.

Of course i realize why this happens, but i'm wondering if they're a workaround. I tried making a symbolic link in my fake_windows directory to my home directory, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
-fibbi

May I ask why you're doing it this way? It seems to me that right-clicking through 3 levels of submenus is not easier or faster than simply adding a shortcut to Photoshop itself to the menu, and then opening the file from there.

Do the files open properly if you open Photoshop first, then the file? If not, then obviously that may itself be the problem.

You may realize why this happens, but I guess I don't-- why exactly do you think this is happening? Which version of Wine are you using? Is it Wine or WineX? Have you configured Wine to see your $HOME$ directory? You should actually edit ~/.wine/config so that the drive entry for your Home folder is an actual path (/home/fibbi) rather than that environment variable Wine uses by default; that has never worked for me. You should also add that drive letter to the Wine path statement in the same file; iirc it is not added by default. That may solve your problem.

Hope it helps.
