Open source software for FEM?


I am doing a project on finite element modelling and using ANSYS for the analysis.Please suggest an alternative which is easy to use and has sufficient online help available?
Also share some more info on this subject as there is hardly any other such thread available.

SciPy, Octave, gmsh,
freefem3D, Scilab
