Open Source BDR appliance

I am looking for a way to build a BDR appliance that can remotely image windows machines similar to the Datto Appliances (Datto uses Shadowcopy).

Does anyone know where I should start looking? I haven't gotten google to return much valuable information on the topic at all, so here I am, lol.

Thanks guys,
