Open Office zips my files

So I have been using Suse 9.1 at work for about a month now. I really like it and will be installing it on a new computer at home in the recent future. Currently I have noticed something I don't understand. When I create a text document in Open Office and save it, it saves it as a .zip archive. I can't find where it is getting the command to do this and it is driving me crazy. It didn't use to do this and I can't figure our what changed nor how to fix the problem.

any thoughts?

Gerry

update - PROBLEM RESOLVED - I did not have "Automatic file name extension" checked.
