Open office poorly deisgned software screws up KDE 3.4

One of the packages open office 2 uses conflicts with the library kde uses which is stupid. The libqt3-mt conflicts with libqt3c102-mt_3.3.4-3. How do I resolve this
libarts1_1.3.2-3 conflicts with libarts1c2

yes. I use debian and so I cant use rpm. Instead I have to use deb packages converted from the orginal rpm packages. My distro is sarge with 64but architecture.

Am also having to use the rpm-to-other converter 'alien' w/ the '--to-tgz' and '--to-deb' options.
Any OOo non-rpm binaries coming out, or is it just stick to OOo sources for now (and maybe avoid prob of libqt3-mt conflicting with libqt3c102-mt_3.3.4-3) ??

they are already i386 packages off bittorrent. The ooo doesn't seem to be installable. Can I install it via the source? I tried the configure from the dmake directory it worked but openoffice wasn't runable. from terminal it said command not recognised. By the way am using 64bit sarge. see this is what i got

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of openoffice.org-core04u:
openoffice.org-core04u depends on kdelibs4 (>= 4:3.2.3); however:
Package kdelibs4 is not installed.
openoffice.org-core04u depends on libqt3c102-mt (>= 3:3.2.3-3); however:
Package libqt3c102-mt is not installed.
dpkg: error processing openoffice.org-core04u (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
openoffice.org-core04u

hence i acted according to what it said above

I've not noticed this as well. I converted the rpms to debs on sid (#alien --scripts *.rpm) and install with dpkg without any problems. KDE is not installed at all on my sid installation, just gnome.

The offical packages are realsed now. But i get this error when trying to open openoffice in terminal. I get nothing when opened via kde

/usr/lib/openoffice/program/javaldx: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/pagein: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstlport_gcc.so.4.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

WHYYYY I had this with an older version. Could u please get rid of this error forever please. It keeps comming back. But they're all in /usr/lib why cant it find them. Is there an variable I need to set or somthing ?

The official openoffice.org packages install in /opt and not /usr. Where did you get the packages you installed?

Ah sorry I got them from http://openoffice.debian.net/index.html. Theres an external link on the homepage which links to the ftp server

oops i forgot to edit my previous post. I only got those errors because I had the 64bit version of those packages. The errors above disappeared when I installled the 32bit packages but then it broke my 64bit KDE as it wanted the packages I had installed previously. It wont let me install both. Does this mean I need to downgrade to kde 32bit but would that mean I cant use 64bit packages at all?

Great the errors are gone but wait now it's saying it cant find an appropriate window system. Not only that certain components dont work any more. ANNOYING
It's also messed up kde as it wont let me login as sc when the password is correct. A message popup saying system bootup in progress please wait. Then the login fails and I can login as root when am sure i disable it.

I am told that libqt3-mt is supposed to replace libqt3c102-mt. It says so within the package manager where it lists all it's dependencies. But the package insists on having libqt3c102-mt so do I just force it to install and all will be fine?
