open office install-not

Hi,
After copying open office from the cd to the hd,Idecompressed it with tar zxvf open office.tar.gz.Changed to cd install then ./setup :does nothing. In GUI clicked on the subsequent install folder and then clicked on the setup icon.A open box came up with a progress bar below it.The blue progress bar finished and then nothing.
Tried locate open office to find a exec. file.nothing.
Thanks
Lachlan.

i'm not really sure what file you've got hold of. open office is usually distributed as a binary executable file, with it's own installer and such. it will install into somehere such as /usr/local/OpenOffice.641c/ with the actual programs in the programs subdirectory. i'd suggest getting the binary file from openoffice.org
