Open Office headers/footers

When I insert a header or footer into a document in open office, the header/footer takes up regular document space, not the 1 inch margin space. What gives? My fiance's teacher is really strict about spacing, and I'm trying to turn her on to linux, but this is not helping. Oh, yeah, Kwrite does the same thing. Anyone?

Well, the problem here is that in OpenOffice the
margin is what you'd actually assume the printer
won't print on, whereas MS defines the term
somewhat losely. To "fix it" (actually the problem
isn't with the program but in the way you guys
are doing layout) you just need to make the
physical margin as small as the printer driver
will allow, and then tackle it from there.

That said you should really be using TeX for
papers, not Word or OO ;)

Cheers,
Tink
