Open Office: Corrupted Menu Displays

{OS = Debian/Sarg - Desktop KDE}

A bit hard to describe and even harder to search for but basically in Open Office 1.1.3 all of my toolbar menu titles and the text in the expanded menus look like a Dat file, just a bunch of square cornered zeros.

I did try un-installing Open Office and re-downloading and installing but I get the same problem. No readable menus so I can't even access the settings in Open Office. Primarily my problem is with "Writer" but the other components I've checked have the same display problem.

My wild guess would be that something has happened to your font handling.

Try "dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig" and select "enable bitmapped fonts by default"

I am perhaps misunderstanding but when I type that in Konsole as root I get command not found.
