open office base question

Hi,

I started off building a simple database at work in (you guessed it MS Access. As I was working on it, I kept thinking that I want to build this on my own computer as well using OO Base.

Not that I am an expert in either, but I noticed that quiet a few things are different. Like I want to create a drop down box in a form with various choices to click on, I want to create a 'new record' button, I want a box in the new record that shows today's date per default and possibly a few more things that I believe should not be too complicated, yet I am unable to find a way to achieve these features.

The options seem limited or involve editing code (of which I am an absolute stranger to)

I guess since I am fairly new to this ground, my questioning is not accurate. The Idea is to create a form entry based database that starts off with a 'main menu' with buttons on it that will open various forms.

Is there anyone who can give me a clue (or two) to where I should look? I tried searching the help file for 'current date' for example and it comes up with tons of text to read (and understand) but I can't see the answers that work for me.

Thanks.
Ron
