Open Office 2.0 and Slackware
Hi all. Relatively new to this forum, but have been using linux (slackware in specific) for many years. I was previously using the 1.x branch of OO and was very happy with it. When I decided to upgrade to 2.0 recently, I was disappointed to find that it was all in RPMs. Per the instruction PDF from openoffice.org, I'm told to look for
Ooo_2.0.xxx_Linux<NeededCPUArchitecutre>_install.tar.gz I've searched to no avail (with the necessary substitutions), and am only able to find the installers for the 1.5 series. Am I just being blind, or are others having the same difficulty as I? I've attempted to use RPM2TGZ, but apparently there's more that's needed (and that's what the install guide states too). Any help/assistance/condolences will be appreciated :) |
rpm2tgz seems to work just fine for me. untar the downloaded gzipped tarball, cd into the directory and run rpm2tgz *rpm followed by installpkg *tgz to install all of the resulting tgz packages. This will stick everything in /opt, but that's ok. You'll want to run /opt/openoffice.org-xxx/program/soffice - you may want to make a symlink somewhere more convienent ;)

Hmm... I'd hate it if it were that obvious... Maybe I got a wrong/corrupt download. I'll try that one tonight and see if it works. Thanks.

Also you download the prepacked one from http://www.slacky.it/
It is an Italian Slackware site(easy enough to get around even if you don't read Italian) and so far I have had good luck with their packages. |
