Open Office 1.1
Hello,
I hope someone can help me with a little problem. I installed the most recent version of Open Office (1.1). However, when I click on the launch buttons on the taskbar, version 1.0 launches instead of the updated version. How can I integrate the new version with the quick launchers? Any ideas? Thanks.
You will need to either - edit the properties of the buttons on the quicklauncher to point to the newer version, or remove it and reinstall it (the quicklauncher that is).

Thank you, I know this, however, apparently I have to change where the quick launch points to. How do I do that? And, where are the new executables? Thank you.

I don't use Redhat, but in SuSE, a new file was created when I upgraded to OO 1.1. You need to find the new file that was created and copy the full file name into your Kmenu editor. There will be an entry in Kmenu for the older version. Just edit it to match the new file.
In SuSE, it was /opt/OpenOffice.org1.1RC/swriter for the word processor.

Okay,
This is the output from that directory. Which file do I edit and how do I edit it? And by the way, I use KDE with the launchers on the menu bar. I was told that I have to change the paths to the executables but I don't know how or where to find the executables.
Thanks much.

I don't use Redhat, but most of the distros I've used with KDE, there is a "K" icon in the bottom left of the desktop. Right click on it and select menu editor. Select your word processing program. Something like "office > word processing.
Hopefully you will see the file name to the older version of OO. Edit that file path so it matches your new OpenOffice 1.1 install. Your new version is probably in the same directory as the older one.
If you still can't find it, try this from the command line:

Well, thanks but you're not really helping me with the problem, unfortunately. typing whereis doesn't result in anything. What has been suggested is that I change the path of the executable which does make sense. However, I don't know where to find the executable for the newer version of Open Office. I found the directories where the files are but I don't see where to edit them.
