Open an windows web site in linux

Hi, My colloge's website is a website that just work with Internet Explorer (and may be just under windows). I have a debian at home. Is there any way I can open the site in linux.
I installed IE under linux but it not work. I think the site uses some windows os API for showing forms, gridviews, etc that are in site app.
I used opera and konqueror which can act like IE browser but these two failed too.
any trick plz

Have you tried Firefox/Iceweasel ? It shouldn't be a problem, it isn't rare thing servers running different systems hosting web servers been accessed by different systems and browsers. Now if you could post more details about what is going on like error messages, that can help us to help you.

Regards

You hint that you're familiar with user agent spoofing. Maybe try another browser as already suggested and see if that spoofs any better.

Failing that, as I see it, you have a couple of options:

1. Approach your college's IT department and ask them for a solution & why the site is IE/Windows only. Surely this is an issue for knowledgeable Windows users (Oxymoron?) that don't want to use IE and Apple users as well as the likes of you who use Linux?

2. Find some way of running Windows, like virtualisation or the like... This would very much be a last resort for you, IMHO.

does it use some activex component? You may try to install wine and start browser inside.
Have you tried that website with differert browsers (in windows)?
Is there any error message?

The site contain a application where student's login and can view the result, submit for new semester and etc...
Even in windows it just work with IE. Before loading the app it error that to use just IE. Firefox and opera in window aren't able to open the site.
IE in wine do not work just with this site and can open other sites.
before I used fedora and in fedora virtual machine I never success to install another OS in it. This is why I never tried Virtual machine in Debian.

I've got Vista business edition running fine in Virtualbox on my Mepis PC.

Just a random thought but how well does IE run in ReactOS? That might be a solution worth considering. I've run ReactOS in vb before with no probs.

It seems like this page uses a special extension/plugin which can be handled only by IE and also can be installed only on windows. I think you can find it by analyzing error messages and maybe you will be install it on wine also - together with its dependencies (.net fw or ??).
