open a port in ubuntu


i want to know how can i open the udp/port 162 in my ubuntu 9.04 to receive snmp trap permanently.

il want that when i open my machine it opens automatically

please,help me

Hi -

There are various GUI tools available, but I'm not sure if you already have any of them installed.

But it's also easy from the command line. For example:

  1. List your current rules:
     sudo iptables -L | less

  2. If port 162 isn't already enabled, do this:
     sudo iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 162 -j ACCEPT
