OOo, DL Envelopes, Kprinter, (CUPS?)

I know OpenOffice.org has known bugs when attempting to print envelopes, but I'm wrestling with it to do exactly that all the same. I can select the DL envelope size from OOo, but KPrinter is missing it from it's list of available paper sizes.

My question is how does KPrinter determine which paper sizes it will offer? The only envelope options it's giving me are Env. #4 and Env. #6. Perhaps it's a CUPS issue, I don't know.

I'm pretty close to getting OOo's "Insert Envelope" to print both the sender and addressee boxes on the envelope, but it looks like KPrinter is cutting off the last part of the sender's address where it thinks the envelope paper sizes are ending.

Any ideas?

cheers

The last time I used OOorg to print envelopes I kept the printer setting to be printing onto A4 paper.

From what I recall, OOorg considered the envelope to be 'section' of an A4 piece of paper if you like. I also remember having to 'move' where the envelope was on the page so that it printed correctly onto the envelope.

So what I suggest, is to setup an envelope and then just print onto a piece of A4 paper. From memory OOorg puts the envelope to far 'down' the page ...

------------------------------
| | <- You want to have the envelope 'starting' here

| |
| |
| |<- But OOorg starts printing here

When you put an envelope in, that means that the place you want to put the 'to' address, instead of being in the middle of the envelope, ends up being near the left hand side.

I fixed this buy fiddling with the 'Shift Right' and 'Shift Down' settings in the 'Printer' tab of the Envelope dialog.

I hope this gives you some help!

Cheers Daniel. I've tried various OOo/KPrinter paper size settings but haven't quite hit the right combination yet. So close though, just the left portion of the sender's address is being cut off. There are so many variables that I've had to keep a log of successes and failures which I'll get back to when I next have some time to spare.

I'm still kinda curious though as to why KPrinter isn't equiped with the DL paper size... You can specify the the paper size using CUPS' media parameter when printing, but I can't find anything on how to modify the list of default paper sizes.

thanks
