OO.org impress - best workaround to add animation

I want to add a custom animation to objects that have been created from grouped ooimpress shapes.

However the animation engine seems to be very buggy. Sometimes objects are displayed before the animation actually starts or a click will advance the animation and blend in a new object but another object that isn't animated in this step is not visible anymore.

That is really annoying and now I would like to know how to avoid this bug.

Is there a workaround to implement an animation of a different Linux program? For example a svg animation?

What programs are able to design/group vector based shapes/text to custom objects and animate them?

How to I implement those shapes in OpenOffice?
