Online with Knoppix

Trying to run the Knoppix cd and I cannot access the internet. I have RH 9 running on my machine and the server with access, no problem. I downloaded Knoppix for the wife to play with, but I cannot get online with it. No matter what addy I typed into the url bar says that the address is no good or cannot be found. (Not that it matters but I didn't download the english verison. It was late at night. LOL)

I am running a linksys router and I have a static ip. I tried to dmz the router and that didn't work either. Any ideas?

Thanks

FX

You didn't download the English version, so you have the German version right?
Do you have German menus in KDE as well?

OK, different question: what do you get if you type
ifconfig -a into a terminal?
Is there a line that starts with eth0?
Because if there isn't such a line, chances are that KNOPPIX doesn't recognize your network card.
If there is a line starting with eth0, you probably just need to set it up correctly.

Did you already run the network card configuration wizard? (the program to set your ip address etc.)?

If no: I'll tell you how to do it.

If yes: hm... I hope you don't say yes, because then the problem might be more complex....

KDE menu is all english. Seems all the read me's are in German though.

I think I setup the card. Said said something about the pppoe concentratort could not be found or some stuff like that.

Im gonna try the cd in mine and see what happens.

Must be the way my network is setup here, I went to the neighbors and played with the cd there and could get online no problem. Oh and they asked if I could leave the cd there so they could check it out too. LOL

Do you know the IP address of your linksys router? (something like 192.168.1.1)

If the setup program said something about "pppoe access concentrator not found" then that wasn't the network card configuration program, but the program to configure DSL internet access. But if you have a router you don't need this.
