Online Student Newspaper Software

I currently run a slackware server for a local private high school. They do a monthly newspaper that they end up printing themselves through Pagemaker. I'm look for opensource software that would work with an apache server. Ideally it would be very simple since they have little or no expirence w/ any sort of web code. Any suggestions?

Would this software print, or are you looking for a web-based newspaper design? Could you please elaborate more ;)

I think Scribus may be what you are after.

web based. Sorry

Well then just give me some more information as to what you want it to do exactly. Be very SPECFIC. you can also check out www.hotscripts.com if you want.

Thats part of my problem. I'm really not for sure what I would want to do :P. I guess the easiest thing is a form for them to fill out the story and then upload to a section.

Maybe you need a content management system like mambo server or drupal.

If you don't need anything over elaborate than I could easily write you up a form in php. Visit my website @ pwstudios.com -- I would do it for free . . . don't get much money doing web business ;)

Barryman ,

there really is not anything too worth while I could find. I think their could be a bigger demand for such software if someone would write it. If your intrested in writing such software. I would be mroe then happy to beta test anything you write up. I would not need anything too fancy. Just a nice layout with sections. Kinda like a real newspaper yah know?

Everyone else,

thanks for the suggestions so far. I will be looking into them.

Newspaper CMS Solution

I posted this to another forum, as well. I use iWebPress for all aspects of managing my paper's content. It's the single best answer to newspaper content management. It works with you to organize everything, including staff, in an easy database. The XML output to web is absolutely astonishing. I highly reccommend www.iwebpress.com for anyone dealing with newspapers. Their education edition is just for high schools and college papers in mind.
