Online Media "glitchy"

Hi all.

I upgraded to Ubuntu JJ a while back and all was good. Last night I updated for the first time in about 4 days and instantly something seems to have gone awry with sites like youtube.

I get about 2 frames per second video. The audio is'nt great either.

I've tried reinstall of FF (I'm on FF 3) and Flash too but no improvement.

Can anyone suggest anything?

What version of FFx are you running?
what version of the flash plugin is installed on FFx?
Otherwise, does your video card perform normally for films etc.?
cheers,

Hi

I'm using FF3 with the lastest version of flash.

Movies play like a dream through VLC.

If it helps, for some reason scrolling is also very very slow in the browser.

Thanks

Maybe it's one of your plugins causing problems on FFx. Have you tried running FFx in safe mode? See if that effects performance and if so, then try disabling some plugins until you find the culprit. I'm running FFx3.5Preview with the latest (Adobe) flash plugin and things are fine.
cheers,
jdk

Hello all again.

Nothing has worked. There is a real issue streaming anything and, I've only just noticed this, that VLC player will crash my OS back to login screens.

Also whilst typing this I notice that the type appears on the screen about 2 seconds after typing....am I going to have to reinstall?

Absolutely NOT!!! No need for a reinstall. The issue is limited to your x-windows setup and not (afaik) to your overall installation. Worst case scenario: reinstall X but we're not there yet. It looks like you may have a faulty video driver or else one of your plugins is acting up.

What types of streams cause vlc to crash?

From what you've said it looks like you may have a dodgy flash-plugin, which is a known problem. Can you find out what version of flash you have installed on FFx and if you have more than one flash plugin loaded? Feel free to google if you are unsure of how to do this. This site (linuxquestions) is loaded with instructions so you could also do a search here.
cheers,
jdk
