Lately I've been having tons of online-editing problems. I am using Linux Mint 17. I don't recall having this sort of trouble in Ubuntu 12.04 in the past and I still don't. I would like to know what editor I use while writing at any website. Currently I use Firefox as my browser in Linux Mint 17.
Whenever I do any editing at a website, the file grows by leaps and bounds. The more I try to delete, the worse the situation gets.
Lately I've been experiencing the same editing problem at www.launchpad.net and www.sentara.com, to cite just two websites. If I try to edit a short post, the text just goes crazy and the result is a mega-sized page. I don't think this has anything to do with the website. I feel that it stems from my browser or something else. I'm using Firefox in Mint 17.
I haven't encountered anything with what I write at these forums or anywhere else, including authoring posts for my own blog and another WordPress blog that I manage; I commonly use Opera, but I sometimes use Firefox, usually on Mint 17 or Slackware or, less frequently, Mageia.
I also sometimes use Mailchimp to send mass emails for a volunteer association I'm a member of (it's an opt-in list). I usually use Firefox on Mint 17 for that and have had no issues editing the emails.
The first step here is to try to narrow down the list of suspects by ruling out other suspects.
I don't have any answers, but I would suggest this: Try using different browsers. I would suggest Opera and Epiphany (or whatever it's called now). Konqueror might be a good choice; I have been playing with it lately and it's actually quite a nice little browser (just make sure you go to Settings-->Load View Profile and load the browsing profile), though it lacks gesture control, which is something I'm very used to using.
If you have another computer, try it. If you have access to a Windows box, try that, using both Firefox and IE.
I've just traced the trouble source, namely Thunderbird Mail's editor. I intensely dislike this mail client's rigid way of dictating the font size to Medium. Why can't the user specify the font size numerically? I wish I could find a more user-frienddly mail application than Thunderbird.
Thanks for recommending Claws-Mail. I had it installed yesterday but I keep getting an SMTP time-out problem. I think I'm specifing the right SMTP port number of 465. My SMTP server is smtp.verizon.net.
I have no experience with Verizon, but, according to this, that's the correct smtp port.
I've used Claws/Sylpheed on several flavors of Linux and on Windows with Cox and have not experienced a problem of that nature. The first thing I'd do is try is to look in /var/log/maillog to see if there is anything helpful; you may have to use sudo to do that. Then I'd try starting claws from the command line and hope for an error message I could search for.
As an aside, you should find some useful plugins for claws in the repos.
We have drifted a bit off-topic for this thread. You might want to ask a mod to move your last post and this reply to a new thread.
