Smile Online backup for Linux

Let me lead this post with an apology: I have not Google'd or searched this forum yet for my answer, I am extremely pressed for time for the next 24 hours and was hoping someone on here had a quick answer for me.

I have a customer laptop (HP/Compaq 6710b running Fedora 10) that is going to be traveling about the USA soon and the client would like to ensure that the files on that laptop are backup up nightly using an online backup solution like iDrive (iDrive just happens to be the one the client uses for the Windows-based laptop).

What iDrive-like solutions are out there for Linux?

Which one is the best (by best I guess I mean most stable and easy to use client at a fair price)?

Thanks in advance for being my R&D on this one...

I don't use Windows, so don't know what that thing you mentioned is. However, Linux backup software is always free -- if it's not, you shouldn't use it.

Checkout rsnapshot, I like it. It's a command line utility you'll have to setup cron jobs for.

Other ideas:
AMANDA ..., tar, cpio, cp, rdiff-backup, plain ol' rsync...

I would recommend Netvault Bakbone for backup purpose. Its support D2D2T.

mvritojr, online = filesystem up? everything i mentioned fits that.
online = over the internet? (via what?) most of what i mentioned can do that, too.

Rsync is good -- its the backbone of most linux backup solutions, you'll enjoy it.

Regards.
