one username in ps -aux not resolving

When I do `ps aux` on one of my systems (production server), the UID does not resolve to a EUID for a certain user. Everywhere else on the system (file ownership in ls -la, ssh logins, `who` and everything else) this user's name resolves fine.

All authentication is done locally, no nis or anything is being used.

here's a chunk of example output from ps -aux
ryan 10958 1.1 0.6 99312 24628 ? Rl 13:39 2:09 soldat_tm/solda
1068 12313 0.0 0.5 100556 23800 ? Rl 13:46 0:09 /home/oneladder
root 22992 0.0 0.0 8580 2548 ? Ss 14:37 0:00 sshd: oneladder
1068 22997 0.0 0.0 8584 1612 ? S 14:37 0:00 sshd: oneladder

rentals 24531 0.0 0.0 3064 1640 ? S 14:41 0:00 /usr/bin/ruby .
root 24554 0.0 0.0 8576 2544 ? Ss 14:42 0:00 sshd: ryan [pri
ryan 24560 0.0 0.0 8748 1636 ? S 14:42 0:00 sshd: ryan@pts/
ryan 24561 0.0 0.0 3588 2012 pts/6 Ss+ 14:42 0:00 -bash

notice how 1068 does not resolve to 'oneladder' as it should. Like I said, everything else on the system can resolve it fine.

I look forward to finding the cause of this.

Some versions of ps do not display usernames greater than 8 characters. I've seen this myself several times. Also, it is displaying the EUID there.
