On-the-Fly Drive / Directory Compression for Linux?
 

Hi, In Windows 2000, if your drive is getting low on space, it's a nice temporary fix to be able to right click a big directory or even an entire drive an compress it. Although it's slower than before, it's really slick how it de-compresses on the fly, transparently to the user. Is there a way to do this in Linux, including maintaing existing directory structure? Thanks for the help!

Thanks! Anyone know of a solution that incorporates one of the major filesystems like ext3 or reiserfs, and preferably doesn't require the creation of a new filesystem at all? This feature isn't something that most people would use permanently or frequently, but is a lifesaver when a server is almost full and budget doesn't allow for immediate upgrading. I have found several things on google, but I'd like to know what people use in the real world. Thanks again!
