On Debian Jessie, ssh session automatically sets $TMPDIR?

When I log in locally, the variable TMPDIR is not set. However, if I log in through an ssh session, the variable is set. I tried Ubuntu and CentOS, but neither of them has the problem. I searched my local configuration file but nothing relevant found.

Do you have any idea why this happened? Thanks!

Your two login methods probably go through a different set of initialization files (profiles, bashrc etc).
You could do a brute force search for TMPDIR, e.g. find / -type f | xargs grep TMPDIR (paraphrasing) to find out where the variable is set.
