Okular on Gnome file location question.

Since Okular highlights and annotates on a layer over the pdf, how can I seperate that layer from the pdf?

corp769 03-03-2011 12:09 AM

Do you mean you are trying to edit the PDF file?

LAPIII 03-03-2011 10:35 AM

No, Okular provides a seprate file which is, likea clear report cover, layered over the PDF and I want to know how to seperate that file from the actual unedited pdf file. I don't mean open the PDF with a different app, document viewer, so that the highlights and annotations won't show on the PDF, but seperate for backing up and I can use a new layer.

Hmmm... All I can think of is either using file -> export as -> document archive, or navigating to ~/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata and see if the data would be in there.

@corp769

Maybe you never used Okular or never explored its features, but it lets you draw on top of the PDF file. These drawings do not become part of the document, the annotated PDF can later be reopened on Okular and you can remove them.

I think that the OP is asking if you can store these drawings as a separate PDF.

Well the OP marked it as solved, so maybe that helped before?

File > Save Copy As duplicates the unedited PDF (without layer)
File > Export As > Document Archive only duplicates the edited PDF (with layer)
In Gnome, can't navigate to the following and I don't know the equivalent:

/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata

Thanks for coming back. But did you get access to that drawing layer (separated, without the basic .pdf) or not? Your posting doesn't say.

Save Copy As saves a new layer, i.e. without highlights & annotations.

JZL240I-U 03-08-2011 01:20 AM

Ah. So you can't save the annotation layer separately. Thanks.
