Ok to copy and rename Chromium profile folder to use as Chrome profile?
Hi.
Is it ok to copy and rename my Chromium profile folder (~/.config/chromium) to use as my Chrome profile (~/.config/google-chrome)? I tested this today and it works but am unsure if it's good or bad practice. I ask because I'm thinking of soon installing Solus on my secondary PC but was surprised to hear they don't have Chromium but do have Chrome. I've got a number of profiles in Chromium that I don't want to setup again. Thanks. |
Not sure what you are asking. But in my Chromium installs. All the Google-Chrome stuff my wife adds to her Windows Google-Chrome broweser makes it into mine. Extensions, Bookmarks, everything but Windows only plugins.
If concerned. Why not use the copy command and copy the folder to a usb drive. Then install Google_Chrome. Log into gmail or google account. Then wait and watch stuff load up. |
I am asking if it's ok to copy and rename (~/.config/chromium) to (~/.config/google-chrome).
Or how about sym linking (~/.config/chromium) to (~/.config/google-chrome)? This is nothing to do with gmail (don't use that). Also, I don't use any chrome login accounts. |
if it works, i don't see any problem.
if it causes problems, you will notice soon enough i guess. i know that mozilla products are pretty good with this. |
When I said 'profiles' in Chromium -- I meant the 'Add people' section.
I also should have mentioned that I do a 1-way sync from my primary to secondary PC - a selection of config files such as .mozilla, chromium, and google-chrome are copied over occasionally. |
