Office Suite for Linux
Hello All,
I'm preparing to setup Linux (uh oh) for the first time. And I'd like to get an office suite that works well w/Linux. 1) I recall some time ago there was a Corel Office Suite for Linux. Is that still true? 2) Also, is there a good search techineque for archived threads on this forum? Please let me know. Lastly, like many here, I'm trying to leave Windows and move to Linux, so I'm going to aaaaaall the FAQs and Posts to anticipate any difficulties I may run into. Your help is sincerely appreciated. Thanks! |
OpenOffice.org seems to be my favorite office suite for linux. it also works with .doc documents so you can work easily on windows machines with your files. this is especially useful on a mixed network/ working at home and then at work.

OpenOffice is good. So is StarOffice, which is developed by Sun Microsystems, and based off of OpenOffice.
Basically StarOffice just includes additional templates, and some clipart, the extras, you know? Both are good, OpenOffice comes with most linux distrobutions by default, and StarOffice you have to pay for. Of course, if you are using it for 'educational purposes' (learning to use it?) you can download it for free from Sun's website. |
Also koffice is a good alternative to use either exclusively or alongside openoffice.

This is great! I'm on a roll. Next week I'll be all converted I'm sure. No one mentioned anything about Corel though.

Corel office is dead... it was never fully alive in the first place :)
Use open office ... or you can even download the one which is customized for KDE and GNOME.. you can get that in kde.org . It is really good and is the best office system I've used in Linux in all my life :) |
