This isn't a serious problem, but it is bugging me none the less......
On my laptop I'm running a standard Slackware 10.2 install and I'm using Fluxbox 0.9.13 along with Aterm 1.0.0. I start Aterm with the following options:
aterm -tr -trsb -tint true -sh 35 -fade 50
If I start aterm on desktop 1, everything works as it should. However, if I start it on any other desktop, the tinting doesn't work. Transparency and fading are fine, but there is absolutely no tint. If I start aterm on desktop 1 and then move it to another desktop it retains its tinting. If it matters, I'm using fbsetbg to set my wallpaper.
To be honest, I'm stumped, so any ideas are appreciated.
<edit>
Oh, and if I switch to KDE, Aterm works as it should on all desktops, so I'm guessing that Fluxbox is somehow the cause of this
</edit>
is true an option for -tint? when i entered your command, i got an error message about it:
aterm: can't load color "true", colorID = 22, (29)
:?:
man seems to say it needs a color name:
Code:
-tint color
Turn on pseudo transparency background tinting. Tinting can be
done fast and slow way. In fast way it will be done by combining
of background color with tinting color using logical function.
This function defaults to AND, and it can be changed using -tint-
type option - see below. In general solid colors like Blue, Red,
Green, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow are good, but you should experiment
with it for each background you have. True tinting is more mem-
ory and CPU hungry - tinted copy of background image will be cre-
ated every time you move/resize window. It alows for more smooth
tinting thou. You need to build it with --enable-trans-
parency=yes or --enable-background-imageyes option, to be able to
use this feature. resource tinting.
it looks like the -tinttype option is what takes true:
Code:
-tinttype type
Allows you to specify logical function to be used when tinting
transparent background. That will cause aterm to logically com-
bine text with background pixels. NOTE: If shading option is
used, or background image is specifyed - true type will always be
used. That works with bpth transparent background and background
image. Possible values are :
Fast tinting options : and, andReverse, andInverted, xor, or,
nor, invert, equiv, invert, orReverse, orInverted, nand,
Slow tinting: true - will do "true" tinting - that means that
background pixel´s RGB components will be decreased proportionaly
to the RGB components of specified tinting color; resource tint-
ingType.
EDIT: d@mn! i just tried a basic aterm -tr -tinttype true -tint red, and it works in desktop one (fluxbox) but not any of the others. thanks for giving me something new to obsess about.
Hm. Well, at least I'm not the only one going nuts. You are right about the tint flag options (I think true used to work in older versions of aterm) but changing it to a color doesn't alter anything. I see you're also using Slackware. Are you using the official package or did you compile fluxbox on your own?
