Odd error during Kubuntu 8.04 boot sequence.

Yesterday, I upgraded my laptop from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 (KDE3 version). Ever since I have done that, around 4/5 time I try to boot up the system, it simply halts. Note that this occurs after the GRUB begins the botting sequence, hence why I think it might be caused by the OS.

This is the output I get:
Starting up...
[ 24.010106]ACPI:EC: acpi_ec_wait timeout, status=0, expect_event=1
[ 24.010167]ACPI:EC:read timeout, command-128
I suspect the numbers in the brackets might be related to the time of the output, since it is different every time I try to boot it.

Also, keep in mind that this error does not happen every time, which makes it all the more perplexing. After maybe 5 cold restarts or so, the thing boots up normally.

I have no idea whats going on. Anyone got any ideas?

Known bug #191137

Possible fixes:
Temporarily unplug your power supply,
Try pressing F6 during boot, not sure if there is more to it,
Edit the boot line sent to grub during boot & remove 'quiet'
Or edit /boot/grub/menu.lst & delete 'quiet'
