Octave Installation problem- requires libg2c.so.0

Hello,

I have been trying to install Octave from an RPM file supposedly precompiled for my Suse 9.3 system. I get that I am missing libg2c.so.0. I believe it has something to do with my gcc version (it's 3.3.5-5.1). I tried installing a newer gcc version but it wasn't possible.

Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?

Thanks

pd/ can someone briefly clarify the difference between i386 and i586 files. Should I be careful with this?

libg2c.so.0 is a fortran run-time library, and is part of gcc suite of compilers, look for a package called 'gcc-g77 3.3.5' or similar, it should provide the fortran compiler and the runtime library you need.

The difference between i386 and i586 is the CPU that the binary will run on, i386 binaries will run on 386 or higher, while i586 binaries require at least a Pentium 1 CPU (or equivalent)

HTH

Mad.

Thanks for the information Mad.

Before you posted I managed to find a little bit more about the issue. I had already downloaded g77 but I have been having some installation problems with that too. IUsually dont't have too much problems but this time it has been troublesome.

I invite you to check another thread I had posted on that: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...34#post1967634

Thanks.
