obtain grub
I use slack withc comes with lilo, I have heard a lot of good things about grub. I decided to try it, but the only download I can find (linked to it from gnu) is for version 0.93 dated back to decemer of '02.. I was under the impression grub was more stable, and also a higher version number, are the files on: ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/grub/ really most recent versions? or are we expected to use cvs (I would rather use stable than cvs, but I am familiar with cvs and use it for several things (ex: mplayer) I am not a newbie and do not need install instuctions, just need current release info. and please do not refer me to distro packages, i doubt there are any slack ones, and I hate packages and love source.

I would rather you stick to 0.93 if you want a stable release. If you would like to be on the bleeding edge (as I gather from your Distribution entry), you can try the nightly uploads.
