O/S will not load

Hi, I have a LiveCD v9.2 and have been trying to load it on my comp,a gateway with P4 (1.3ghz),256mb ram and a 20gb HD.sound card is a nvidia geforce 2mx.I am NOT much of a comp geek so bear with me.The CD starts up OK and runs thru a bunch of checks (OK/fail)which it goes thru OK.When it gets to a screen explaining if any problems log-in and type password, I begin to type in log-in but it won't let me finish, then screen goes black and it dies. One time i got past that to sound card check but it sent me right back to black screen after.Any help would be greatly appreciated since i formatted HD and wiped off my Windows ME.

What distrobution are you using? Fedora? Can you also include some actual error messages, if any.

Also, the period (.) is normally followed by at least one space, but formally two spaces if it ends a sentence.

I'd be guessing SUSE since there's a LiveCD v9.2. Incidentally, didn't two spaces after a period go out of style since we started using wordprocessors with automatic spacing and justification?

I'm not an expert on every release of every Linux distroubution. I didn't have enough information to help, so I asked a simple question. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just trying to help.

It just makes it easier to read. This forum doesn't have automatic spacing and justification.

Did you run a checksum on the Iso's?

Live CD's are typically not that great for installing to an HD. You should probably download the regular Iso's, although this doesn't help your current situation.

Yeah no argument here either. I just stopped double-spacing after periods a long time ago. I was looking for the official answer.

I have seen other posts with no periods whatsoever, believe me those are really difficult to read. I guess it's related to familiarity with English punctuation.

Getting back to the OP, my only suggestions are to check the md5sum of the iso, reburn the CD at a lower speed, or try a different LiveCD, as there are lots of options. No guarantees that any of that will work.
