Be a little more descriptive, you can't get your Internet running? How far do you get, what errors do you see, since when has it been "your" Internet?l

You need to set up associations with your desktop programs. KDE is asking you what program you want to use for this file type, so tell it. If you don't like this use the command line.

tar -zxvf foo.tar.gz
rpm -ivh foo.rpm
less foo.txt

Easy.

Finn.

What does a compiler have to do with anything? If the tar.gz files contain source code and the distro that your using doesn't ship with a compiler then you wont be able to do much with them. LiveCDs are just meant to give you an introduction to the distro, or use it as a recovery/emergency distro. I haven't found one that expects you to use it as your long term linux desktop.

Have you checked google for getting linux and AOL working together? There seemed to be a lot of doco about it.

Seeya,
