Nvidia Drivers

I tried to install my nVIDIA drivers, however, I get an error. The error says something about a precompiled kernel doesn't match? Anyone know?

Which distro and which nVidia driver version? There are various versions of the nVidia driver - each containing some precompiled distro specific versions as well as the basic driver for you to compile yourself. The easiest option is to locate the one for your distro if possible. Some of the versions of the nVidia driver seem to have problems with certain distros, so it may be worth having a nose round Google to see if yours is one which is mentioned there.

I got an error like that. Then it asked me if I wanted to try downloaded a precompiled kernal module and I said no (I don't have net at home right now) and then it said it was going to compile a new module. Did it not give you these options? I let it compile the new module and it works fine now.

It didn't find any on their ftp. Hmm, I read the readme. Where do I find my kernal-sources? Because this is what I think I must install for it to work. I have 4 Fedora cd's. Core 3. Which cd would it be on?

I don't know which of the FC3 CD's it would be on exactly. I had FC2 for about 10 minutes. lol My system is built from scratch, so I had to download my kernel from www.kernel.org. You should have the source code on the FC3 discs somewhere though. You might even be able to boot from the first CD and install the kernel source from there, but again, not experienced with FC. But once you get the kernel source installed, the nVIDIA installer should work fine if you choose the final option. My works perfectly. So glad I ditched my ATI card for nVIDIA. hehe

[Edit] Actually, now that I think about it, the kernel sources are probably on the first disc. Maybe under a dir called 'packages' or 'sources'. The folder its it might also be called 'k' because it's the 'k package'. Let me know if you find it. [Edit]

As mentioned above, kernel.org. But when you updated, wasn`t there an option to keep the source?
