Nvidia driver problem Mandrake 10.1 Official

Ok, so i to a fresh install because i had some problems.

So i go to the next best version of Mandrake and all goes good.

Except for getting the Nvidia drivers(6629) in....

So i'll install them, it wont have a precompiled module for my kernel(which i bet would help), so it compiles it. that goes good, i edit my xorg.conf to specifications and then i reboot.

So when it goes into KDE the Nvidia logo stays on screen(it's like the backround never refreshed).

And most of my gui is gone, except icons, Menus only show text and the backround keeps everything that goes over it(like it doesnt refresh).

So thats my problem. because of that my computer is unusable. So i've switched back the the nv driver.

Also i tried to install the 6111 drivers but that just quits and gives me an error at the compile at 83%

Logs provide no info what so fucking ever.

Any help is appreciated!

oh and i run a GeForce4 MX 440 SE.

I had similar problems, had to use the 5336 drivers, give those a try.

you have saved my life man. That worked like a charm.

I sure hope they fix what they broke in these drivers.

Glad it worked :D I know how ya feel messing around with that stuff, I'm a complete noob so I assumed I was messing something up, a few days later, LQ and nvidia's forums bailed me out :P But yeah, I had the exact same prob, newest drivers froze at splash, second newest wouldn't build, but all is good now :D Maybe the next release will work for our stuff

That's weird, I am running the latest drivers (w/e version they are) on my GeForce FX 5200 just fine with Debian Sarge.

well, the way i see it, Nvidia enabled some sort of optimizations in the newer drivers which broke compatibility with us people with "Budget" cards.
