ntpd - Undefined reference errors during install

I performed a minimal installation of CentOS 4.3, installed openssl-0.9.8b, and then attempted to install ntp-4.2.2p2. Configure goes fine, but make fails with the following errors.

Code:
/usr/local/ssl/lib/libcrypto.a(dso_dlfcn.o)(.text+0x3e): In function `dlfcn_load ':

My best guess would be that there is a problem with my openssl installation, or I didn't install something that I should have.

I know I could just
Code:
yum install ntp
chkconfig --levels 235 ntpd on
ntpdate 0.pool.ntp.org
/etc/init.d/ntpd start
but I think this is better experience for a . Well, not exactly a newbie, but I am certainly not a Linux expert.

I thought I had finally found the solution for that problem in another forum. I added --with-libs=-ldl to my ./configure statement and make completed. I did, however, spot the following errors while it was in the process, though.

Code:
ntp_crypto.c: In function `crypto_recv':
ntp_crypto.c:627: warning: passing arg 2 of `d2i_X509' from incompatible pointer type
ntp_crypto.c: In function `crypto_encrypt':
ntp_crypto.c:1650: warning: passing arg 3 of `d2i_PublicKey' from incompatible pointer type
ntp_crypto.c: In function `cert_parse':
ntp_crypto.c:3021: warning: passing arg 2 of `d2i_X509' from incompatible pointer type
ntp_crypto.c: In function `cert_sign':
ntp_crypto.c:3233: warning: passing arg 2 of `d2i_X509' from incompatible pointer type
ntp_crypto.c: In function `cert_valid':
ntp_crypto.c:3338: warning: passing arg 2 of `d2i_X509' from incompatible pointer type
I ran make install and the original errors I got during make showed up again and install aborted.
