NTDLR missing HELP
 

I have gotten this installed (so happy) but I cannot boot. It seems to be working fine as I am using it now (do not know the name of it but i got it from pclinixos) this is the error I got when I tried to reformat.

Installation of bootloader failed. The following error occurred:
: /proc/devices: fopen failed: No such file or directory
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
/proc/devices: fopen failed: No such file or directory
Failed to set up list of device-mapper major numbers

Fatal: Bios device code 0x80 is being used by two disks
/dev/sdb (0x0810) and /dev/sda (0x0800)


Can anyone help fix this.

Do you use grub or lilo? Boot up in rescue mode or a live distro and post the contents of: "fdisk -l".

If you use grub, post your /boot/grub/menu.lst file. If you use lilo, post /etc/lilo.conf.

I can't tell how this relates to some of your more recent posts (some duplicates). Please describe the exact configuration--eg what OS on what drive?

What do you mean by "reformat"? If, for example, you format a partition with a filesystem, you aren't going to get an error message about the bootloader failing to install.

Reading your other posts, I see that you were putting Linux on an external USB drive. This can be fragile: Depending on what is plugged into the system, the system will see the drive numbering differently. When the Linux bootloader is on the internal drive, there are situations where it cannot find its files on the external.

If you are dual-booting, I recommend putting both OSes on the internal drive, and using the external for shared data, backup, etc.
