Unhappy nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for nppdf.so on Debian amd64.

Hi I am trying to use acrobat's nppdf.so 32 bit viewer for pdf files in firefox 3.0.12. When I do the install nspluginwrapper -i /path/nppdf.so
the error message is:
nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for nppdf.so.
This occurs on Debian amd64 linux. Firefox of course won't use the plugin.
How can I fix this? What viewer is nspluginwrapper referring to?
I built nspluginwrapper successfully from source.
Thanks,
Rob Key

Is there a reason you're not using a native amd64 pdf viewer, such as xpdf:

Hi, I want to view pdf files in firefox just for the convenience. A lot of people seem to have got nspluginwrapper working but under Ubuntu which is essentially the same as Debian. I just wondered if anyone new what the problem is.

Oh I see what you are getting at, I installed xpdf but if I also install mozplugger then I can launch a pdf viewer inside firefox (or mozilla) which would be a better solution to nspluginwrapper which is not included in the AMD64 distro. I quess with mozplugger I could launch one of the other pdf viewers as well.
Thanks.
Rob
By the way I suppose everybody knows that the jdk or jre from sun includes a 64bit javaplugin since update 12. Very convenient.

You should be able to choose which application you use to view pdf files in the FF menu.
I'm using Iceweasel,so it may differ, here's how i do it after installing xpdf:

edit>preferences>applications

Then look down the list of file types, and find portable document format.
Change the default application to xpdf, then click close.
Try opening a pdf file to make sure.

And yes,the 64bit flash and java plugins are available from the Debian repos.

Thanks trooper, I did get it working yesterday with xpdf and with evince although evince does not open inside iceweasel. I had forgotten about mozplugger. I now have everything working in amd64 including googleearth etc. Have you noticed any speed difference between amd64 and i386 on the same computer? I haven't really checked yet.
Thanks,
Rob
