Notification-daemon vs notify-osd

Hi there, I hate the standard theme on notification-daemon so I was looking for different ones.
Installing notification-daemon from source I can see that there is a src/themes/bubble tree besides the standard one, but I can't find any difference with the standard engine.

I could copy the binary libubuntu.so that I had around from an old Ubuntu installation, but I'd like to find the sources for different themes.

Finally, Ubuntu's notify-osd supports hints to have a gauge bar (for example in the volume-change-notification), is there anything like this with notification-daemon?

Thanks.
