Quite frankly I do not understand the need for super security. Linux has always been that way and I have learned to live with it. But from this thread, there are levels of security that might be called root, super root, and supremer root, which I never knew about. Just who is all this supposed to help?
When the pclinuxos grub worked perfectly for me I lost interest in the Ubuntu grub. However for the user who only wants to boot Ubuntu and Windows, I see the failure to pick up Windows in the installation as a major flaw in Ubuntu 9.10.
When you're posting, take a look at the number of posts of the people replying. Chances are that if it's in the thousands, they've actually tried this stuff before.
If you want a simple dual-boot setup, you install Winnows first, and any version of Linux second, and it ALWAYS sets it up automatically. I have never had a problem with Ubuntu-Windows, and I've done it many times.
The only time I had a problem was after I installed a third hard drive, and wanted a multi-boot setup.
I think, Mr sheine, you must have done something wrong during the installation. Did you set the Primary/Secondary jumpers on the HD's correctly - Windows Primary, Linux Secondary? Just a thought.
