I recently purchased a new HP Pavillion 15 Notebook PC15-p078ea. I dumped Windows 8.1 and after conquering Secure Boot, installed Ubuntu 14.10 The laptop has adequate System Memory (8 Gigs) and a 1TB internal drive. Ubuntu installed fine, but there is one problem. If I insert removable media, the internal drive starts up, but the disk isn't recognised. I have tried VLC and Parole Media Player, and a number of different DVDs and get the same problem even when the disk spins normally the media player doesn't recognise the data stream. It won't even recognise the DVD I installed Ubuntu from. Everything else is okay apart from removable media. Any ideas please?
