I just installed an evaluation copy of Parallels workstation 2.2 on a Ubuntu 7.10 host. I created a Windows XP Pro guest machine. I have noted the following issues:

I don't have experience with the software you mention, but the one I use requires to choose which devices (including USB ones) will be accessible from the guest system. Maybe you should search for a similar option.
I haven't used Parallels but in VMware USB devices have to be assigned to the guest system once it's up and running. Have you checked for a similar option in Parallels?
