Not able to login, cant see the sign in box

Hey everyone, I'm a beginner on the free software usage so I installed CentOS on my pc.

I have CentOS 7 on my pc with GNOME Desktop, i wanted to have MATE Desktop so I did all the steps to install it which are the follow:

yum groupinstall "Server with GUI" -y

yum groupinstall "MATE Desktop"

systemctl set-default graphical.target

systemctl isolate graphical.target

Then I rebooted the computer, but now it does not show the session selector so I am not able to login, it only show the CentOS black background and the pointer of mouse

Does clicking on the bottom of the screen and dragging up show you a list of users? If so click on the one you want to login as (or click "other" and input root or any not shown).

If that fails try hitting Ctrl-Alt-F2 to go to the CLI login prompt on virtual console 2 (GUI is on 1 on RHEL7/CentOS7).

can you switch ttys
Code:
ctrl+alt+Fx
x=[1-12] F-Keys.
then you can login to your display cli user then issue your commands to put it back the way it was, until you figure out the proper commands to switch lonin managers, if memory servies be correct, it looks to be systemD so
Code:
systemctl enable (manager)
systemctl disable (manager)
something like that to trun on and off which ever manager you want to use.

i don't think these are instructions to install a MATE desktop on an already installed centos system. where'd you get this from?

esp. the last one is outright WRONG.
please read
Code:
man systemctl
and see what the isolate command does.
