not able to login as a generic user

hello everybody,

problem: not able to login as a generic user..
what happens is that every time i put in the user id and password, few sec later it returns to the login screen.

i'm able to login as a root user but not as a generic user...

created anther generic user and the same thing happens...the login screen appears, i put in the generic userid and pwd but it keeps returning to the login screen...
- i even disable the password exp. option but no affect.

Any ideas

How did you create the account (mandrake gui or command line)?
Is a user and its files/directories created the correct way?
Anything in the logfiles?
What does 'finger <user>' tell you (if finger is installed)?
Can you become <user> from a root account (su - <user>)?

sh:#cat /etc/login.access

And you will find, probably, the answer to all your questions....

i'm using mandrake 9.2 and i could locate the file your talking about
i went into /etc and there are no login.access file or directory.
