Not able to install oracle 9i on red hat 9

hi all,

Im trying to install oracle 9i on red hat 9 which is installed on my laptop(hp 6120) but whenever i try to start the oracle universal installer,it fails to initize and said you need to install java 1.3.
I have copied all the oracle three cd's on my laptop and java is there in cd 2 but still it is not able to start the oracle universal installer.I have set all the kernel parameters everything.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the Java version error, but there are problems with Redhat 9 and Oracle. There's info at http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml on this - I've used it before and been able to get Oracle running on several different distros.

Given that RH9 is hugely out of date/not supported/patched anymore, are you sure you want to use that.
You'd prob have more success with a more recent distro eg RH Fedora Core 7 or Centos (free ver of RH Enterprise Linux)
